BURPHAM COURT FARM

Guildford

This historic collection of farm buildings and Grade II listed cottages had most recently been used as a rare breed petting zoo, but had fallen into disrepair after the zoo closed. Located on a bend of the River Wey Navigation, the site provides an idyllic setting.

We prepared designs to divide the large, existing farmhouse and link this to an existing outbuilding by way of a single storey link extension. This created two desirable dwellings, each with views over the nearby countryside.

Additionally, planning permission was achieved to refurbish and extend a pair of Grade II listed cottages which dated back to 17th Century. Constructed originally as a timber framed building and later extended in solid masonry construction, these small cottages provided a challenge as to how to successfully refurbish the cottages while at the same time providing houses that would be loved and retained in good condition for generations to come. The resulting designs worked with layout of each cottage while integrating a small extension to each cottage to provide some much-needed living accommodation. The fabric of which complimented the original design features without obscuring the historical fabric.
